Parents’ Evaluation of Developmental Status (PEDS): Training for Trainers

Monday, March 15, 2010 / 9:00 am ~ 4:00 pm

The Center for Human Services

UC Davis Extension

1632 Da Vinci Court
Davis, CA 95618

The Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA) require children, birth to three with a substantiated allegation of child maltreatment, to be referred to early intervention services. Given that children in foster care experience developmental delays four to five times higher than other children and that children under age five are the fastest growing age group to enter care, the need to identify and address developmental issues early is critical.

The PEDS (Parents' Evaluation of Developmental Status) is a fast, accurate, screening and surveillance tool for developmental and behavioral problems in young children. PEDS meets the recommendation by the California Department of Social Services to use standardized tools to identify children for referral. This ten short questionnaire uses the parents' and/or caretakers assessment of the child's behavioral problems and can be used to educate on appropriate child development, engage families and most importantly; identify children at risk for referral to early intervention services.

In the Parents' Evaluation of Developmental Status (PEDS) training of trainers, participants will receive instruction on how to train others to implement the PEDS questionnaire. Upon completion of this seminar, participants will have a working knowledge of the research behind PEDS and will have the tools and knowhow needed to train others in PEDS usage.

Morning coffee and lunch will be provided.
